Design Considerations Substrate 7 to 24 pt stock is recommended for this process. 60 - 100 lb coated stocks tear when separated and are not recommended. Curling will be evident if a lighter stock is used and coating is applied to only 1 side. This coating is recommended for products in which humidity variations are likely to occur. For best results, coated stocks are recommended over uncoated stocks. Alternative Processes For a similar appearance, you may wish to consider O.P.P. Matte Film Lamination. Summary of Coating Characteristics | Gloss | Matte | | Abrasion Resistance | Average to Poor | | Chemical Resistance | Excellent | | Adhesion | Very Good | | Colour Fidelity | Good | | Glueability | No | Environmental Impact | Recyclable | No | | Repulpable | No | | Biodegradable | No |
General Coating and Laminating Guidelines Offset spray should be kept to a minimum. Low-wax, non-bleeding inks should be used. Metallic inks are not recommended. Sufficient time should be given for ink to dry before applying coating. Rhodamine red, reflex blue and purple should be avoided if possible. Your ink supplier can recommend inks, or call us for a complimentary test and recommendations. For best results, LayFlat Matte is to be applied to 1 side only.
