Design Considerations Substrate 7 to 24 pt stock is recommended for this process. 80 - 100 lb coated stocks can be used, however, some curling may occur. The possibility of curling will be greatly increased when coating on both sides of the sheet. For the best results we recommend coated stocks over uncoated stocks. The selected area for the Spot UV process requires a right reading, emulsion up, film positive (clear area where no coating required). Complementary Processes The combination of Spot UV and O.P.P. Matte Film Lamination requires the press sheet to be initially coated with Matte Film followed by the spot UV process. The film used in this process is treated for Spot UV compatibility. Summary of Coating Characteristics | Gloss | Spot UV | Excellent | | O.P.P. Matte | Matte | | Abrasion Resistance | Average to poor | | Chemical Resistance | Excellent | | Adhesion | Spot UV | Good | | O.P.P. Matte | Very Good | Colour Fidelity | Good | | Glueability | No | Environmental Impact | Recyclable | No | | Repulpable | No | | Biodegradable | No |
General Coating and Laminating Guidelines Offset spray should be kept to a minimum. Low-wax, non-bleeding inks should be used. Metallic inks are not recommended. Sufficient time should be given for ink to dry before applying coating. Rhodamine red, reflex blue and purple should be avoided if possible. Your ink supplier can recommend inks, or call us for a complimentary test and recommendations. Spot UV in conjunction with O.P.P. Matte can be applied on 1 or 2 sides.
